Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Special Servants (Pelayan Khusus) as role models for the spiritual growth of young believers in light of the Trinitarian relational theology of John Zizioulas. Emerging from the reality that many church youths experience spiritual stagnation and reduced engagement in ministry, this research emphasizes that the exemplary life of special ministers is a decisive factor in rekindling the faith and devotion of the younger generation. Employing a descriptive qualitative method through theological literature analysis, field observation, and in-depth interviews with pastors, elders, deacons, and Christian education teachers in GMIM Kalvari Talaitad, Tareran II District, the study reveals that the Trinitarian communion—described by Zizioulas as a free and mutual self-giving love—serves as an ideal model for special servants that nurture the spiritual, emotional, and social dimensions of young people. Field findings indicate that young believers are more inspired by authentic lived examples rather than verbal instruction alone. The research concludes that the church must strengthen the spiritual formation of its special ministers so they may function not merely as administrative officers but as living icons of God’s love, capable of generating transformative influence for the younger generation.
